The festivities of San Isidro<\/strong>, on May 15, are a continuous temptation in Madrid for those with a sweet tooth and addicted to popular desserts. Between chulapas and barquilleros, dozens of street stalls display the typical sweets of San Isidro, to the delight of some, and suffering of those who prefer to keep the line. <\/p>\n

I assure you that the typical sweets of San Isidro<\/strong> are worth a few extra hours at the gym. In each bite full of sugar we find the taste of recipes improved after years of traditions and the memory of a childhood in the kitchen of our grandparents. <\/p>\n

But what are those typical San Isidro sweets<\/strong> that cause so many temptations?<\/p>\n

San Isidro Doughnuts<\/h3>\n

The tontas, the listas, the lemon, the Santa Clara… A great variety of rosquillas del santo are displayed in the stalls of the verbena. The most classic are the rosquillas listas and the tontas<\/strong>, whose only difference is based on the sugar bath that is given on top. Cotton candy<\/h3>\n

It is impossible to go to a fair, whatever it is, without seeing dozens of children with their faces full of cotton candy. One of the most popular sweets<\/strong> among the youngest, but which, it is said, comes from Italy. <\/p>\n

It is made simply with sugar heated and expelled with force in the form of fine threads. The cotton candy maker’s skill consists of twisting them around a wooden stick to form a cloud. A pleasure that melts in the mouth at the first bite. <\/p>\n

One of the most typical sweets of Madrid<\/strong>. It is very peculiar to see how the chulapos and chulapas move the roulette of their barquillero. The garrapi\u00f1ado<\/strong> is made with sugar that is slowly toasted in a large cauldron. It is important not to stop stirring so that the almonds do not stick or burn. It is one of the typical sweets of San Isidro<\/strong> that you cannot miss. <\/p>\n

\"Candy<\/p>\n

Caramel apples<\/h3>\n

Although it comes from the USA, this dessert has become so popular that it is impossible not to find it at any fair in Madrid.<\/p>\n

It is an apple coated with a bright red candy, served as a lollipop. The caramel stays crunchy, so be careful not to hurt your gums when biting into it, but its sweet taste, in contrast to the apple, makes it one of the most appetizing desserts of San Isidro<\/strong>. <\/p>\n
