Why is Mother’s Day celebrated in Spain?<\/h2>\n

First of all, we would like to make a small reference to the reason for this celebration.<\/p>\n

Mother’s Day in Spain<\/strong> has its roots in a rich history that spans ancient civilizations, religious traditions and international influences. Its origin dates back to the earliest celebrations honoring mothers in Ancient Egypt<\/strong>, where homage was paid to the goddess Isis, followed by the veneration of the mother of the Greek gods, Rhea, in ancient Greece<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

During the rise of the Roman Empire<\/strong>, the festivity was consolidated, establishing March 15<\/strong> as the day to honor all mothers<\/strong> in the temple of Cybele, the mother goddess. However, with the arrival of Christianity, the celebration evolved to honor the Virgin Mary<\/strong>, mother of Jesus, and became associated with the feast of the Immaculate Conception in December.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Finally, in 1965, Spain adopted the first Sunday in May as Mother’s Day<\/strong>, a date that coincides with the month of the Virgin Mary in the Christian calendar, thus honoring both motherhood and religious devotion. And what better way to express maternal love than with special sweets? The kind with a few extra calories, but forgiven for celebrating a special day. <\/p>\n
