Christmas makes us invest a lot of money in entertaining our bodies and those of our families and friends. At this time of the year, the table is filled with copious meals and trays of nougat, polvorones and peladillas that are unbearable for our stomachs. That is why it is not uncommon to find ourselves, in mid-January, with a pile of nougat in the pantry that, in the best of cases, is unopened, or dozens of half-finished nougats, which often end up in the trash.
If you have some nougat bars at home and you are afraid that they will spoil, nothing better than giving them a second chance and reinventing some traditional recipes. We propose you to turn them into an irresistible nougat tiramisu. Although some Italians may cry foul at this idea, the truth is that it is a recipe that combines the best of two worlds: the classic Italian dessert and the emblematic flavor of Spanish Christmas.
And, if you prefer to keep the nougat tablet even if it is opened, here are some tips for preserving Christmas nougat.
Recipe of nougat tiramisu
Ingredients
For the cream:
- 250 g mascarpone cheese
- 3 eggs (separating whites and yolks)
- 100 g sugar (you can adjust according to your taste)
- 200 g of soft nougat (the classic Jijona nougat, which is perfect for its smooth texture)
For assembly:
- Soletilla biscuits (about 12-14, depending on the size of your baking pan)
- Cold coffee (approximately 200 ml, sweetened if you prefer)
- A dash of optional liqueur (such as amaretto, rum or almond liqueur)
- Cocoa powder to sprinkle at the end of the meal
How to make nougat tiramisu
- Prepare the mascarpone and nougat cream
Start by beating the egg yolks with the sugar until you obtain a creamy, whitish mixture. This is the trick to give the cream that light and soft point that characterizes the tiramisu. Then add the mascarpone little by little, beating with enveloping movements so that it does not lose air.
Chopthe nougat into small pieces and add it to the mixture. You can grind it beforehand if you prefer a more uniform texture, although some small pieces will give it an interesting touch. Set aside.
- Whip the egg whites until stiff
This step is essential to make the cream light. Beat the egg whites until stiff with a pinch of salt and, once ready, add them to the
- Prepare the biscuits
While the cream rests for a while, prepare the coffee and let it cool. If you like a more adult touch, add a dash of liqueur to the coffee. Dip the sponge cakes quickly into the mixture, avoiding soaking them too much, as they could fall apart.
- Assembly of tiramisu
Assembly is one of the most satisfying moments. In a rectangular mold or in individual glasses, place a layer of biscuits soaked in coffee. Then cover with a generous layer of the
- The final touch
Sprinkle cocoa powder on top just before serving. If you want to give it a more Christmas touch, you can add some sliced almonds or grated nougat.
Let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, although if you can prepare it overnight, the flavors will intensify even more.

Tips to customize your nougat tiramisu
Every family has its own tricks in the kitchen, but here are some ideas to adapt it to your taste:
- Hard nougat? If you don’t have soft nougat, you can use crushed hard nougat. Although the texture will be different, the flavor will be just as delicious.
- Non-alcoholic alternatives: For a child-friendly version, substitute vanilla essence for the liqueur or simply omit it.
- Coffee-free version: Not a coffee lover? Try dipping the biscuits in hot chocolate or an infusion of cinnamon and star anise for a spicy touch.
